College Space Utilization Policy
The Louisiana Tech University College of Engineering and Science operates teaching, research, and administrative facilities in ten buildings comprising over 350,000 square feet of floor space. Even so, we are growing in our need for space as active learning and project-based learning increases, and as research activity (success) increases. Consequently, our need for effective utilization of the existing space increases. The goal of this policy is to clarify the process for requesting space within the College of Engineering and Science.
Process for requesting space
When a need arises (e.g., a new project is funded, a student design project requires workspace, enrollment grows in a program), a faculty member should make a request through the Center Director or Academic Director, outlining the specific function and estimated space requirements. The Director may discuss the space need with the impacted faculty members, other Directors, or the entire Leadership Team, depending on the scope and scale of the need and the availability or allocation of impacted space. Finally, changes to the current allocation plan will be approved by the Dean and Leadership Team. The current space utilization plan (current allocation of space) is maintained by Mr. Ray McKinney, Coordinator of Technical Support for COES.
Student Organizations Space Allocation
Student professional and honors organizations have historically played a significant role in the educational experience of engineering and science students at Louisiana Tech University. The College has historically supported these organizations in many ways, including direct support with resources such as program and travel funding, transportation, and space for student files, meetings and projects. The College continues this strong legacy of support for student organizations. This policy addresses the College's commitment of space to student organizations.
Registered COES student organizations are allowed to schedule officer, committee, or general organization meetings in COES classrooms and conference rooms at times other than scheduled class times or previously scheduled meeting times. Program secretaries will assist organization officers in placing meetings on the university room schedule or the COES conference room calendar, as appropriate.
Recognizing the need for accessible file storage to promote student organization continuity, the College will provide appropriate storage space for student organization files and related materials. Student organizations may request space in any appropriate COES building by contacting the relevant Director as described above. Current file storage space assignments are listed below:
|BH 403||E&S Magazine|
|BH 414||Tau Beta Pi|
|BH 405||ASME/Pi Tau Sigma|
Student organizations are expected to keep their assigned space safe, neat, and orderly. Unauthorized use of the assigned space may result in revocation of the space assignment.
